The Gerry Barretto Award recognises the outstanding contributions made by professional staff to the quality of students' University experience. Ms Laurie Ransom is the 2011 Gerry Barretto Award for Outstanding Student Services Award Winner. Laurie has made an outstanding contribution to a high quality student experience at the University of Melbourne, over many years, consistently delivering services that are of outstanding quality.

As head of the Academic Skills Unit, Laurie has been responsible for strong growth in the take up of tertiary literacy programs in faculties and graduate schools.Laurie works collaboratively across the University, making the strong links within faculties and other central service areas essential for the delivery of high quality student services.
